At Bali Nanny Co, the safety, wellbeing and happiness of children are at the heart of everything we do.
As parents ourselves, we understand how important it is to feel confident about who is caring for your children, especially when travelling overseas.
We take great care in selecting the independent nannies featured on our platform and setting clear expectations for safe, respectful and responsible childcare.
Bali Nanny Co is a platform connecting families with independent local nannies. While we do not directly provide or supervise childcare services, we are committed to promoting child safety through our screening processes, safety standards and response to concerns.
1. Our Nanny Screening Process
Before being accepted onto the Bali Nanny Co platform, nannies are assessed through a screening process designed to help families make informed decisions.
Our screening process includes:
- An interview to assess experience, communication skills and suitability.
- Reference checks relating to previous childcare experience.
- Review of Indonesian police clearance documentation (SKCK).
- Verification of First Aid and CPR qualifications.
- Assessment of English-language communication skills.
- Assessment of swimming ability and water safety awareness.
Screening helps us assess suitability at the time of review, but it cannot eliminate every risk or guarantee future conduct.
2. Respectful and Appropriate Care
Nannies using Bali Nanny Co are expected to:
- Treat every child with kindness, patience, dignity and respect.
- Provide age-appropriate care and supervision.
- Respect each child’s individual needs, background and abilities.
- Use positive and appropriate behaviour guidance.
- Never use physical punishment, intimidation, humiliation or threatening behaviour.
- Never engage in inappropriate physical contact, abusive behaviour, neglect or exploitation.
- Respect children’s privacy and personal boundaries.
The safety and wellbeing of children must always come first.
3. Active Supervision
Nannies are expected to provide attentive and appropriate supervision throughout their agreed childcare hours.
This includes:
- Knowing where the children are and remaining appropriately attentive to their activities.
- Taking reasonable precautions around roads, balconies, stairs, pools and other hazards.
- Never leaving children unattended or transferring their care to another person without parental permission.
- Avoiding distractions that compromise supervision.
- Following parents’ instructions regarding routines, activities and safety requirements.
The level of supervision should reflect each child’s age, abilities and individual needs.
4. Swimming and Water Safety
Swimming pools, beaches and water-based activities require particular care.
Nannies are expected to:
- Obtain parental permission before taking children swimming or participating in water activities.
- Maintain close, active supervision around water.
- Never leave children unattended in or near water.
- Follow age-appropriate water safety practices.
- Avoid entering the water with children where conditions are unsafe or beyond their capabilities.
- Communicate any water safety concerns to parents.
A nanny’s swimming ability does not replace appropriate supervision, and no water activity is entirely without risk.
Parents and nannies should agree on swimming arrangements and supervision expectations before participating in water-based activities.
5. Excursions and Transport
Nannies may accompany families and children on outings, excursions and activities where agreed.
Before an excursion, nannies are expected to:
- Obtain clear parental permission.
- Confirm the destination, activities and transport arrangements.
- Understand the children’s individual needs and relevant safety requirements.
- Follow appropriate road safety and transport precautions.
- Keep parents informed of significant changes to agreed plans.
- Avoid activities or environments they reasonably consider unsafe.
Children must not be taken to unapproved locations or placed in the care of unauthorised individuals.
6. Health, Hygiene and Medical Needs
Nannies are expected to follow appropriate hygiene and health practices, including regular handwashing, safe food handling and maintaining a clean environment.
Parents should provide accurate information about allergies, medical conditions, medications and any special care requirements.
Nannies should follow agreed care instructions and must not administer medication without appropriate parental authorisation and clear instructions.
If a child becomes unwell or injured, the nanny should promptly notify the parent or guardian and seek appropriate medical assistance when necessary.
7. Professional Conduct and Boundaries
Nannies are expected to maintain professional and appropriate relationships with children and families.
This includes:
- Not consuming alcohol or recreational drugs while responsible for children.
- Not providing childcare while impaired.
- Not inviting unauthorised visitors into the family’s accommodation.
- Not sharing photographs, videos or identifying information about children without parental permission.
- Not posting images or information about children on social media without express parental consent.
- Maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding family information.
- Communicating honestly and respectfully with parents.
Any conduct that places a child at risk is unacceptable.
8. Emergencies and Incident Reporting
In an emergency, nannies are expected to prioritise the child’s immediate safety, seek appropriate emergency assistance and contact the parent or guardian as soon as reasonably possible.
Nannies should promptly report significant incidents, injuries, safety concerns or allegations of inappropriate conduct to Bali Nanny Co.
Bali Nanny Co will review concerns brought to our attention and take appropriate action, which may include seeking further information, suspending a nanny’s profile or removing a nanny from the platform.
Where appropriate, serious concerns should also be reported to relevant local authorities.
9. Our Commitment to Families
Bali Nanny Co is committed to:
- Maintaining a consistent screening process for nannies applying to join our platform.
- Communicating clear child safety expectations.
- Taking reported child safety concerns seriously.
- Reviewing concerns promptly and taking proportionate action.
- Removing nannies from the platform where serious safety concerns warrant it.
- Encouraging open communication between families and nannies.
- Reviewing and improving our safety processes over time.
While Bali Nanny Co does not directly supervise independent nannies during bookings, we recognise the importance of maintaining appropriate safeguards within our platform.
10. Parent and Guardian Responsibilities
Child safety is a shared priority.
We encourage parents and guardians to:
- Review nanny profiles and discuss their expectations before confirming a booking.
- Provide accurate medical information, emergency contacts and care instructions.
- Clearly communicate boundaries around swimming, excursions, transport and other activities.
- Ensure the nanny understands their children’s individual needs.
- Remain contactable while their children are in the nanny’s care.
- Report concerns promptly so they can be reviewed and addressed.
